Sizing your can liners
To size a liner correctly, match it to the receptacle in two ways. First, the width of the flat bag should be about half the circumference of the can so the liner wraps the opening without excess film. Second, the length should cover the height of the can plus enough overhang to fold over the rim and tie or close. A bag that pools at the bottom or drapes far down the outside is oversized and wasting film.
Then choose the material by how the bag will be loaded. Low-density (LLDPE) liners stretch and resist punctures and tears, which suits heavier or sharp, irregular loads like breakroom and back-of-house waste. High-density (HDPE) liners are thinner and stronger against straight tension but tear more easily on punctures, which suits lighter, non-sharp loads like restroom and office paper waste — and uses less material for the same capacity.
